Official Opening of New Artists' Studios at Dumfries House Estate

On Monday 22nd October 2012, HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay officially opened The Prince’s Drawing School Dimplex Studio on the Dumfries Estate

Formerly The Dumfries House Laundry, the building was designed by John Adam in 1760 to complement Dumfries House itself and the nearby Coach House. It was extended in the late 19th century and the building was used as a youth hostel until the 1960s, but fell into disrepair thereafter. In recent years it was completely derelict and overgrown, with only the four walls remaining.

Scare yourself silly this Halloween at Dumfries House!

Friday 26th or Saturday 27th October, 6:00-8:00pm £7.00 Adults; £5.00 Children (6 – 16 years; children must be accompanied by an adult; not suitable for children under 6 years); £20 Family Ticket (2 adults & 2 children).  

Come along on a terrifying ‘Spook Tour’ as Dumfries House is transformed into a haunted house! Let your ghoulish guides lead you from room to room, where you will encounter ghastly characters and hear their blood-curdling tales….if you dare! After your tour, enjoy some ghoulish fare in the Rothesay Room.
Tours begin at the Stables from 6.00pm and will run every half hour, the last tour leaving at 8.00pm. Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled tour. Entrance to Dumfries House estate is from the A70 Cumnock - Ayr road and parking is available at the stables/coach-house café. Fancy dress is optional but you are advised to wear weather-proof jackets and sensible footwear for the walk up to the House from the Stables.
To avoid disappointment, tours must be booked in advance on CALL 01290 425959.

Royal Race Day at Ayr Races

THEIR Royal Highnesses, the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay, will be guests of honour at the William Hill Supporting Dumfries House Race Day (Ladies Day) at Ayr Racecourse on Friday September 21.

The fixture, the middle day of the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup Festival, Scotland’s biggest flat racing meeting, will raise funds for Dumfries House, the stately home and estate on the outskirts of Cumnock saved for the nation by the Duke.

Prince’s Foundation invites public to Judge Summer House design for Dumfries House walled garden.

The Prince’s Foundation invites the public to have their say in the design of a new Summer House for the walled garden at Dumfries House. As part of the annual Summer School programme, students will see a live construction project through from design to build and the public are invited to participate in choosing the winning design.

During the Summer School, students work in teams to develop their designs one of which, will eventually take pride of place in the walled garden at Dumfries House. HRH, The Prince of Wales saved the Dumfries House Estate for the nation and the regeneration that has occurred since the purchase has seen significant transformation in the area.

Dumfries House Community Awards Presented

Over £30,000 awarded to ten local groups.

To coincide with the national celebrations marking Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, The Great Steward of Scotland’s Dumfries House Trust awarded a number of grants of between £1,000 and £5,000 to volunteer and charitable groups who work to benefit their communities in Cumnock, New Cumnock, Auchinleck and Ochiltree. The Dumfries House Community Awards will take place each year with the primary aim being to support those who work to bring added value to the local community. It is anticipated that next year the geographical area will be extended to include additional local towns and villages to make funding available across the wider community.

Outdoor Instructor & Youth United Ayrshire Coordinator

Dumfries House is looking to employ an Outward Activity Instructor.

Reporting to the CEO/Project Director, Dumfries House or their nominated representative and The Chair of Youth United Ayrshire or their nominated representative, the successful applicant will be responsible for the management and development of an outward activity centre, including all aspects of course development, course design, health & safety, risk assessment, maintenance/support of equipment and development of resources to meet the needs of Uniformed Youth Groups in Ayrshire within an outward activity environment.

The course is aimed at Private Individuals, Estate and Farm Staff, Construction Industry Professionals, as well as those involved in landscape conservation and enhancement projects.

HRH the Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay officially opens new guest house at Dumfries House Estate

On Wednesday 4th April, to coincide with the start of the new visitor season at Dumfries House, a new Guest House, Dumfries House Lodge, was officially opened by HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay.

This six bedroomed luxury guest house is a new venture for the Dumfries House Trust which was set up by His Royal Highness in 2007. The Dumfries House Lodge will provide accommodation for individual guests within the beautiful setting of the Dumfries House Estate and will also provide overnight accommodation within the Estate for those attending private or corporate events and dinners at Dumfries House.
