Chapter One: Fireside Chats
Country House Readings at Dumfries House
Book fans watch out! 24th January 2013 will see the start of a novel event which joins a selection of well-crafted tales with the atmospheric surroundings of Dumfries House. Join us this winter for three deliciously disquieting tales by the fireside with a glass of wine and in good company.
We have selected three books for informal discussion and will take you “behind the scenes” of the House to highlight certain aspects of our tales. You can take your pick of the books or join us for all three unnerving stories. There is no need to have prior knowledge of the books, just come along and enjoy.

Official Opening of New Artists' Studios at Dumfries House Estate

Formerly The Dumfries House Laundry, the building was designed by John Adam in 1760 to complement Dumfries House itself and the nearby Coach House. It was extended in the late 19th century and the building was used as a youth hostel until the 1960s, but fell into disrepair thereafter. In recent years it was completely derelict and overgrown, with only the four walls remaining.
