The Prince and the Elephants

Yesterday, 31st May 2011, HRH The Prince of Wales arrived at Dumfries House to be met by two enormous elephants carrying the Dumfries House crest.

The pair of elephants named 'Dumfries' and 'Rothesay' after the house and HRH's Scottish title, have been sponsored by Dumfries House and are part of Mark Shand's Jungle City initiative.

Jungle City will feature 150 brightly painted, life-size sculptures of some of the planet’s most endangered species and aims to raise £1m for their survival. The exhibits will have pride of place on buildings, park benches, lampposts and even traffic lights at the height of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Edinburgh will be transformed over the summer into a jungle; filled to the brim with iconic animals, the sounds of the city replaced by the trumpeting of elephants, birdsong and monkey chatter.
